About Me
Diana SM Buist, PhD, MPH
For 30 years, I have conducted rigorous research that has improved health and healthcare, with a special emphasis on cancer screening and the use of real-world data to improve population health.
Inspired by my physician parents, I’m dedicated to service through science. My own journey in public health led me to Yale School of Public Health for a Master's in Epidemiology, and then on to the University of Washington School of Public Health in Seattle where I obtained a PhD in epidemiology.
I have deep scientific expertise and acumen, which is illustrated by decades of having a continuously funded and broad grant-funded portfolio. My research has led to national and international improvements in health and healthcare and includes transformative changes in cancer prevention and national screening guidelines. I am an effective communicator and trusted collaborator, as evidenced by long-term successful strategic partnerships with health systems, academia, patients, and industry partners. I’ve maintained a career-long commitment to training and mentoring and am particularly gratified for the opportunity to provide training in epidemiology and outcomes research to clinicians in underserved areas through the MECOR (Methods in Epidemiologic, Clinical, and Operations Research) program.
My recent experience in the biotechnology sector complements my academic career. As Senior Director at GRAIL, I was responsible for scientific oversight and strategic direction of their real-world evidence portfolio including two large GRAIL sponsored studies. I was also accountable for developing and driving the externally sponsored research program. These experiences required deep engagement and alignment with many internal and external cross-functional stakeholders to establish high-value partnerships and to generate high-quality clinical evidence.
I am now leveraging my expertise to help clients who seek unparalleled experience in the science of cancer control from study design to protocol development, to innovative dissemination and implementation.
I do other fun things, too – along with being an avid skier and hiker, I enjoy pickleball and time with my amazing family. Ask me about my work with the Cards Against Humanity Science Ambassador Program!
